Garment Care

Cotton Shirts

Before washing undo all the buttons. This lessens the strain on the stitches holding the button onto the shirt. Remove the collar stiffeners where applicable to prevent damage to the shirt or washing machine.

Wash your shirts in cold water, and wash dark colours separately. Do not tumble dry your shirts; rather, allow them to drip dry on a coat hanger or clothesline.

That best ironing results are achieved when your shirt is either ironed slightly damp, or is ironed with the aid of a water spray.

Suiting Items and Coats

To maintain the quality and appearance of your Rhodes & Beckett suiting piece we recommend the following care instructions:

Dry Clean Only. Keep in mind that dry cleaning chemicals can be damaging to wool fibres and can shorten the life of your garment; so try and limit cleaning to once a season or only when the garment has become visibly soiled.

Do not iron. Prolonged and direct contact of a regular metal iron may damage the fabric and cause an unwanted shine. Instead use a garment steamer, which will remove creases but also deodorize the fabric. Alternatively have your garment pressed at a reputable professional cleaner.

Always store your garment in a well-ventilated area on the Rhodes & Beckett hanger that was provided with your purchase. This hanger will preserve the shape and drape of your garment. Never use a wire hanger and always empty pockets before storing.

Brush your garment with a stiff-bristle brush after each wear. This will remove lint and debris from the surface which can build-up and result in fibre decay and weakening. The natural wool fibres of your garment need time to rest and recover, so make sure you rotate your garments evenly throughout the week and try to avoid wearing the same piece two days in a row.

Silk Blouses and Dresses

To maintain the quality and appearance of your Rhodes & Beckett silk blouse or dress we recommend the following care instructions:

Dry Clean Only. Keep in mind that dry cleaning chemicals can be damaging to silk fibres and can shorten the life of your silk blouse; so try and limit cleaning.

Knitwear

To maintain the quality and appearance of your Rhodes & Beckett knitwear we recommend the following care instructions:

Hand-wash your knitwear using cold water and gentle knitwear specific detergent. Never use enzyme based or harsh detergents that contain bleach or brighteners.

Leave to soak for only a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly in cold fresh water (and softener if desired).

Dry knitwear by rolling in a soft towel and gently pressing down to remove any excess water. Do not wring, twist or tumble dry. Lay knitwear flat in a cool dry place. Do not dry in direct sunlight, as this causes damage to the fibers and colour fading.

If ironing is required, use a low setting and steam function to easily removal creases. Do not apply unnecessary pressure as this may lead to damaging the garment surface. Never hang knitwear, always store flat with the fewest folds possible, this avoids unwanted stretching or distortion of the garment̢’s shape.

Ties and Pocket Squares

To ensure your Rhodes & Beckett silk piece holds its form and colour for many years to come we recommend the following care instructions.

Please use care in tending to stains. If your piece is marked we recommend that this be pointed out to your professional drycleaner as quickly as possible.

Never attempt to remove spills by rubbing or spot cleaning. Silk fibres are easily broken when wet, which can cause fabric damage or permanent water-mark stains.

Minor wrinkles will usually disappear if your item is left flat over night. For stubborn creases hang your garment in the bathroom during a hot shower or use the steam from a steam iron without actually touching your item. If your iron does not have a steam function, place a protective cloth over your garment and press using the lowest possible setting.

Leather Goods

To maintain the quality and appearance of your Rhodes & Beckett leather items we recommend the following care instructions:

Spray your leather item with a good quality leather protector before use. This will protect against water, stains and dirt and will help to extend the life of your product.

Clean your leather item regularly using a leather shampoo and clean dry cloth.

Spills and marks should be treated as quickly as possible to avoid the substance becoming a permanent stain.

After cleaning apply a leather conditioner to prevent drying out, colour fading and cracking.

Always keep leather products in a dry place. If your leather item does come into contact with water, blot gently with a towel and leave to dry naturally in the shade. Never use a hair dryer or direct sunlight as heat can damage and fade the colour of the skin.

Store your leather item in the Rhodes & Beckett cloth bag provided with your purchase.
